Cosmetic Dentistry in London

What is cosmetic dentistry?

Cosmetic dentistry refers to all forms of dentistry that are not meant to save your teeth, or restore them to their former glory, or even to their former level of functionality; cosmetic dentistry is meant to improve the appearance of your teeth. Many different procedures can be listed under this heading, but the few words above can be said to be true about all of them. Although crowns and bridges can restore and/or improve the functionality of your teeth, they are still primarily an aesthetic augmentation and are thus sorted in this category of dentistry. Our composite fillings are the first thing to talk about.

What are composite fillilngs?

The basic staple of dentistry are the fillings, used when the tooth is in no real danger but has incurred some decay or breakage. Our fillings are aesthetically pleasing because they are made of a white composite gradia, thus looking like your original teeth. So this can be called a borderline cosmetic dental treatment, as it is also conservative in nature.

Composite fillings are tooth colored fillings made of hypoallergenic composite gradia. To learn more about composite fillings, click HERE

The most well known and most often used form of cosmetic dentistry is by far tooth whitening. We use Zoom tooth whitening technology, though there are many other brands available on the market. This procedure whitens your teeth up to 3-4 shades, revealing your inner, brighter smile.

How can I whiten my teeth?

With our tooth whitening sessions, powered by the patented Zoom tooth whitening technology! To learn more about tooth whitening, click HERE.

How does the tooth whitening procedure work?

We use Zoom! Whitening technology, which is Zoom!gel + Zoom! Light (laser) together and it takes about 45 minutes. The procedure is simple; it starts with a short preparation to cover your lips and gums leaving only your teeth exposed. The hygienist applies the proprietary whitening gel, which was designed to be used specifically with the Zoom! Light. The gel is placed in trays and than placed over your teeth. The light and gel work together to gently penetrate your teeth, breaking up the stains and discoloration. During this time you can relax. The gel is applied for 3 fifteen minute sessions for a total treatment time of 45 minutes. Finally you go home with your brighter and whiter smile.

What are dental veneers?

Dental veneers are thin layers of porcelain permanently adhered to your teeth. If you would like to know more about dental veneers please click HERE.

For teeth that have been badly damaged due to habits such as smoking, frequent drinking, or some sort of trauma, tooth whitening may not be enough to get your smile noticeably whiter. Veneers are a solution. Dental veneers are thin pieces of porcelain cut to the shape of your original teeth and adhered to the surface, thus giving a new outer shell to the same old teeth. A favorite amongst politicians and Hollywood celebrities who have to project a confident and radiant smile. The procedure can occasionally take two visits, but is usually done with just one trip to our cosmetic dentist.

Are dental veneers right for me?

The procedure includes filing the teeth a minimal amount to accommodate the veneer, more if they are irregularly shaped. This is why dental veneers can only be given to people with sufficiently strong teeth to support the veneers and the filing procedure.

What can you tell me about dental crowns and dental bridges?

Dental crowns are artificial replacements of the visible portion of your teeth. A bridge is a row of more than one crowns. To learn more about dental crowns and bridges, please click HERE.

A dental crown replaces the visible portion of the tooth, everything above the tooth root. Bridges are a row of crowns, made to replace more than one tooth.

Our crowns are always made of a porcelain outer shell which reflects light much like the enamel of living teeth. The main differences are in the internal structure of the crown itself. Our standard dental crown is made of a surgical steel inner structure that is hypoallergenic and non degrading. The porcelain outer shell is fused together with this internal structure in our very own dental laboratory by our dental technicians specifically upon the request of our professional cosmetic dentists, all done at our London dental practice. The other dental crown that we use has a zirconium internal structure. Zirconium is a synthesized form of zircon; it looks and reacts like actual teeth and is not rejected by the body as many other metals can be. The material plays with the light in the exact same manner as actual tooth enamel, and thus is completely indistinguishable from actual teeth.

What does this have to do with crowns and bridges?

Our London dental practice is one of the most affordable and provides some of the highest quality dental care in the UK. We have specialist cosmetic dentists as well as highly skilled and trained dental nurses ready to provide any sort of cosmetic dental treatment that you may desire, all available in the prestigious Bloomsbury neighborhood in the heart of London.
